Bwtech cooperates for Open RAN implementation in Brazil
Bwtech, a leading provider of end-to-end performance monitoring and optimization solutions for the mobile communication industry, integrates Anatel workgroup to study the implementation of open radio access networks (Open RAN) in Brazil. Anatel is the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications.
The group created by the Agency, which includes Bwtech and other players, will evaluate the Open RAN model’s regulatory, financial, and technological aspects. By 2023, the workgroup will present a report to support possible public adoption of the model in the country.
The possibility of diversifying the role of vendors in the telecom industry has been discussed for a long time to offer a more diversified and efficient infrastructure. In this scenario, studies and investments in Open RAN have grown considerably, given its strong potential to insert new players in the market, offering more interoperability. Open Ran’s advantages are a wider selection of RAN vendors, CAPEX reduction, no vendor lock-in, and more intelligent networks.
Other group members are traditional vendors, such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei; integrators NEC, IBM, Fujitsu, and Tech Mahindra; infrastructure operators, government and academic entities; and Facebook, which leads the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) consortium.
“The existence of Anatel’s Working Group is a fundamental opportunity for companies, Universities, and operators to exchange experiences and discuss the implementation of Open RAN technology. It is also a way for companies to show their advances to the elite of the Brazilian Telecom Market.”, says Vinicius Resende Bwtech’s Pre Sales Engineer.
